Inspired by both Asian ball jointed doll imagery and the French Jumeau. My first attempt at needlepoint canines, indeed! A new little lassie for the Imagined Portraits set. Part clown, part bloodsucker. What an extraordinarily silly combination!
I am set to continue the silhouette style series (see previous post for examples) over the coming week, with perhaps a tad more narrative, detail. I shall hopefully have more to share with you soon.

We can start again right here
Digital illustration and photomontage.
Little enigmas, part of the Second Nature Silhouettes series. I am very much lost to my dreams right now. Sometimes they're so magical, sometimes they frighten me. Nature is as nature does.

Baby Nature
He is my chubby little Pan figure.

The blocks represent urban buildings. There is something quite liberating about working with imprecise lines.
.
Secret Ceremony
It was a pleasure to work with these, however simplified they may seem. I sort of love the intricacy within the forms, as opposed to what lies outside and around them. This was the idea - internal nature merging with the physical, etc..

To The Other Side ver.2
These are something of a reaction to many odd, unexplainable experiences that I have lived through. Also somewhat inspired by Picnic At Hanging Rock, a smidgen of Virgin Suicides, and the mood of Katherine Mansfield. They are not concerned with gender or any sort of symbolic 'fancification' (for a change!) More literal, really; a party of schoolgirl somnambulists take the plunge. Perhaps they are confused mediums, not knowing what to make of their 'gift'. Or maybe reality, for them, has far too many constraints. I like to think that I can understand why they are doing it, but I doubt any of us can.

Pearls
A much, much older work, repainted. Well, entirely overhauled.
*Post edited to remove Ozma. the picture will definitely return, although as yet it is not complete. My indecision bothered me so much that i decided to remove it for the time being, for fear of confusing people even more!;)
The deleted version will still be viewable here until the new one arrives.

Mittens ver.2
The coziest of weekends here. Low, grey skies and falling leaves. Reading, musing, one foot perpetually planted in another world. Finishing up Lady Audley's Secret, about to fall into Tin House. I crave something sugar sweet yet tinged with darkness.

BelleWoods
Digital photomanipulation
Something of the long-ago, the lost in time, the secret desire, the never-coming-back. Quite a contrast, pictorially speaking, to the squirrels and hedgehogs, yet surprisingly born of the same dream.

Random, rambling thoughts..
The light so pale so beautiful these past few days. Like ghost light. Like an afterthought. Sleeping early so as to wake at dawn to catch the morning mists over the fields. How it silences the world. Letting my hair fall in long waves and wearing a knitted beret. Fairisle, of course. Awaiting a new rug for the living room. Something palest yellow, wool perhaps. Finally completed this months commission work. Time to begin new projects, I think, with a darker, brooding, underground theme....I am missing my darker imaginings!
A sleepy morning. Woke a little too early this time. I wish sometimes that I could use my kitty for a pillow, but he is so very small. What I love most in the world is the sensation of his fur brushing against my cheek, my legs. The softest, silkiest touch.
Out walking, we collect stones and fallen leaves. We sit and watch the sun scatter little gifts of diamond light amongst the trees. I want to catch them, the way children chase after flakes of snow. But they are too quick for me. I watch them fall into his chestnut hair and settle there. A moment later they are gone.
Tea: the more ancient and fragile the saucer the better. I should prefer to see sugar lumps resting beside the spoon. Do they sell them anymore? We used to feed them to our horses out of the palms of our hands. If horses had any sense they would take them with tea. That said, my sisters old horse used to enjoy the occasional pint of guinness.
Brambles and berries. The man at the florists told me they were called snowberries. I'll take five, I said. And a bunch of white lilies, please. I don't have the correct tools for cutting through thick stems. Oh well. It was, at least, a disaster that ended prettily.
There is nothing quite like frosted light combined with central heating, a window seat and a good book.

I have been enjoying a little break from the web/work this past week or so. Catching up with friends and indulging in home-y things.....reading (Katherine Mansfield/Russian folklore/Iris Murdoch), films, music (Air's Love2) and sleeping (never underestimate the restorative power of sleep!). We have so much rain here today, minimum daylight, a promise that autumn has finally decided to settle with us proper. On top of this, I am experiencing the most curious, vivid dreams. This is where sleeping gets you....
Take care xxx
