I began something truly strange. Inspired mostly by my recent interest in museums, natural history and classification imagery.
Hair.
Thinking of hair in abstract. The texture, colour, light. So I decided to create my very own little tribute to hair, by way of a series of polaroid style layouts, each of them titled in their own, mysterious way (you may have to click on them to view large if you wish to read the titles).

Many of these samples contain my own hair. My hair is pretty versatile to say the least, curling naturally, or falling in waves, it can also be straightened very easily without too much effort. In this sense, as much as it may frustrate me on a daily basis, my hair can lend itself quite niftily to art.
Some of the samples are taken from photographs of family and friends. The titles are inspired by a combination of association with the time and place that the image was taken, and a little bit of good old fashioned make-believe. This is how it goes.

No new illustrative works just yet. This past week has been a chaos of things to do, including some long overdue catching up with old friends. A very pleasant week, although there hasn't been a great deal of time left over for me to lock myself away with my coveted specters and dreams. I am just about suffering withdrawal, so expect something to materialize quite soon:)
.
I would also love to share some recent work by a close friend of mine, who shall soon be opening her own online store. She very kindly gifted me the surreal rabbit pyjama case, and a beautiful print of a sketch in progress, Red Riding Hood:

As for Master Lars......I located this startlingly curious object this very afternoon, nestled amongst less terrifying ornaments on the shelf of a local charity shop..

I'm really not so sure about Master Lars. He kind of scares people. It's the mouth, I suppose, which opens and closes quite greedily via a wooden lever in his back....snap snap snap! I would dearly love to know who made him, and how old he is, but I doubt that I ever shall. If anyone can shed some light upon this creepy little article I would be most grateful......(I have since been told that he may very well be a 'nutcracker'. Must google this right now!)

More soon!

I love those hair collections. All your photographs have this dreamlike haze to them, and I think it's showcased especially well here.
Strange as it sounds, hair is actually one of my favorite things to sketch on the train to pass the time.

If you didn't know that was nutcracker when you brought him home, I think you'll be delighted by the coincidence:

The hair photography is wonderful. Have you seen the movie "Fur?"
